Types of Thin Double Sided Tape

Has a thin layer of polyester film in the middle. High transparency and neat edges, with a thickness range from 5 μm to 200 μm.

Made of thin tissue or synthetic non-woven fabric. It’s hand-tearable and flexible, with a thickness range from 80 μm to 160 μm.

A pure film of adhesive sandwiched between two liners. Has excellent heat resistance and can form the thinnest bonding line. Typically 25 μm – 130 μm in thickness.
YINDIAN Thin Double Sided Tape Features

Not stretch or deform during processing and applying, especially the type with a PET base material.

It can quickly penetrate into the tiny crevices on the surface of the adherend, establishing a firm initial bond.

Can resist solvents, oils, and sunlight exposure, ensuring that it does not get yellow or fall after a long time of use.

Our non-woven fabric/cotton paper-based thin double sided tapes can be torn by your hands, improving construction efficiency.
Durable and Powerful Adhesion
YINDIAN thin double sided tape has excellent solubility capabilities, enabling the glue to penetrate the tiny irregularities on the surface. Unlike thicker foam tapes, our ultra-thin double sided tape boasts outstanding shear strength, so the bonding points always remain firm and do not shift over time.
Besides, our professional-grade adhesives have undergone chemical treatment and can resist ultraviolet rays and oxidation, preventing the bonding points from becoming brittle or losing their adhesion, maintaining good condition even after years of environmental exposure.

Stable Structure for Die-Cutting
YINDIAN employs a polyester (PET) film with high tensile properties as the core structure of the thin double sided tape, which provides a stable condition for die-cutting. This film provides the necessary rigidity for the cutting process to prevent stretching during high-speed mechanical processing, and this core enables the tape to be cut into complex and fine geometric shapes.
In addition, we use the release liner coated with high-quality silicone as a combination, which makes the tape easily peel off on an automated assembly line.
Thin Double Sided Tape Applications

Electronics is one of YINDIAN thin double side tapes’ core applications. Their thin thickness and high precision make them ideal for screen assembly, battery fixation, positioning, and dust-proof sealing of the camera or sensor, and fixing a flexible printed circuit board (FPC).

YINDIAN thin double side tapes can be applied in automotive areas because of their temperature and weather resistance. They are good for adhesion and fixation to dashboard components, interior rearview mirrors, and various sensor fixations.

YINDIAN thin double side tapes are designed for various industrial processes. For example, in paper factories, you can use them to splice two rolls of material. You can also use them for shoes and clothing adhering.

Our high-precision thin double side tapes can also be used for adhesive bonding of skin sensors or electrode patches or layering medical-grade adhesives onto non-woven fabrics or films.
The thinnest double sided tapes have only 5 μm to 10 μm thickness, which is nearly ten times thinner than a human hair. Those tapes can provide structural bonding in extremely confined spaces. They are usually used in the assembly of smartphones, OLED displays, and wearable sensors.
Yes, when it comes to tensile strength, a thin double sided tape is usually similar to a thick foam tape, while the shear strength of a thin tape is always better because there is no need to tear a foam part. In comparison, foam tapes are more suitable for uneven surfaces.
Of course. Most of our thin double sided tapes can withstand short-term temperatures up to 200°C (400°F), especially the Adhesive Transfer Tapes (ATT). So it’s ideal for you to apply them in electronics areas.
Yes, if you want waterproof tapes, you can choose our acrylic thin double side tapes, which can effectively cope with humidity. But be careful that they may not be suitable for permanent underwater submersion. If you have such requirements, you can consult our professionals and get a special customization.
The peeling off is usually caused by insufficient pressure or contamination of the surface, such as oil stains, dust, or fingerprints. If this occurs, you need to clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) first.
We do not recommend that. The thin double side tape has extremely high adhesive strength and is extremely thin, so it cannot be stretched, which makes it very likely to tear the paint or gypsum board paper during removal.
Generally, most industrial thin double sided tapes can last for 12 – 24 months under an ideal environment (approximately 21°C temperature and 50% relative humidity).
However, YINDIAN high-quality thin double sided tape applies acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, ensuring stable physical properties and high resistance to ultraviolet aging and oxidation. Therefore, our tapes can even last for over 10 years.
What is a Thin Double Sided Tape?
A thin double side tape is a high-performance adhesive product used to form an invisible connection between two surfaces, and it does not increase volume.
It is composed of a thin base material and uses pressure-sensitive adhesive on both sides, and its material surface is covered with removable protective paper.
Usually, it has high shear strength and precise die-cutting capabilities, widely applied in our lives.
Why Do You Need a Thin Double Sided Tape?
Low Assembly Accuracy
If you use a thicker tape instead of a thin double-sided tape, the excessive thickness may affect the assembly accuracy, which can lead to the misalignment of the components in your equipment.
Product Appearance
If you do not use a thin double-sided tape, there may be obvious uneven surfaces, which will largely influence the product’s appearance, and this will make your product less attractive to customers.
Detachment
Our thin double-sided tapes have nice bonding layers, protecting your components from falling off. If you choose an ordinary tape, your components may come off over time, especially when they are under pressure or changing temperature.
Higher Costs
Compared to our professional thin double-sided tapes, other standard tapes may have an unstable bonding performance. This largely increases the rework rate, which also highly rises your production costs.
Material Incompatibility
YINDIAN can customize the thin double sided tape material according to your actual working requirements. However, without a professional analysis, you may choose the wrong bonding material with insufficient bonding strength. This problem would be more obvious when facing materials with low surface energy, such as polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE).
How to Choose the Best Thin Double Sided Tape?
When choosing the most suitable thin double sided tape, you can consider 4 aspects: surface energy, texture, environment, and your process needs.
Adherend Surface Energy
The surface energy largely decides whether your tape will detach. The higher the surface energy, the stronger the bond.
For example, standard thin double sided tapes can be stuck on high surface energy (HSE) easily. However, for some low surface energy (LSE) materials, such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and powder coatings, you may have to select special thin double sided tapes labeled as “LSE Bonding”.
Surface Texture
To stick to smooth surfaces, you can choose PET thin double sided tape. For a minor curved surface, you can choose non-woven fabric/cotton thin double sided tape, which is softer and hand-tearable. For higher demand, you need to choose adhesive transfer thin double-sided tape, which can flow like a liquid.
Environment
The environment influences tape durability a lot. If you want to apply the thin double sided tape outdoors, you have to ensure the tape can withstand short-term high temperatures ranging from 80°C to 150°C and has UV resistance.
Process
If you have special processing requirements, you also need to take them into consideration.
For example, if you need to cut the tapes into various shapes, the PET thin double sided tape is the best choice because it won’t stretch or deform.
If you just pursue high efficiency, you can choose a non-woven fabric/cotton paper substrate.
How to Remove a Thin Double Sided Tape without Damage?
Actually, removing a thin double sided tape is more difficult than removing a foam tape because it has lower physical strength and uses a high-strength acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Here, we recommend 3 methods for you.
- Heating
You can use a hair dryer or a hot air gun to heat the thin double-sided tape for 30-60 seconds. Then pull it slowly backward at a 180-degree angle.
- Use Adhesive Remover
If there is a thin layer after you tear off the tape, you can use the Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) or a dedicated tape remover (such as 3M Orange Smell Tape Remover) to remove it.
- Stretching Separation
Some of our high-quality thin double sided tapes are easy to stretch. You can grasp one end of the tape and stretch it horizontally along a direction parallel to the surface, and you may find that the tape layer is thinner and automatically comes off without any remains.
